It takes money to make money...

...I only wish it wasn't so much money sometimes. I purchased a portable battery and a digital LCD photo frame this morning from Costco, to the tune of just under $200. The portable battery will get a lot of use - a lot of craft shows don't have power, or charge for it, and I can bring the laptop and lighting along now. I know I could go the low tech route of a photo album, but a photo album can't be seen from across a show hall, and people are attracted to bright shiny things and movement. At least it's a business expense.
The other big cost is business insurance. Through the Alberta Craft Council I found an insurance company that offers insurance to artists and crafters. Home insurance doesn't always cover the destruction or damage to produced goods and equipment, and I'm also covered for liability and such. A disadvantage of being a sole proprietorship is that I can be sued and all my assets can be fair game if I lose. Now that you know that, please don't sue me! :-)
