I love weekends were stuff gets done! I'm surprised, because my art hovel has been compromised. After I stuck all my art junk in the entertainment center of doom (see a few posts back) my husband decided to donate to a charity. Fine, no problem, except the charity couldn't get a truck and decided not to take it. Now my father in law wants it, and while he was able to find a truck, it turns out that the truck wasn't big enough. Ah well...

This is one of those paintings that I started a while back (in spring) and finished this weekend. While I'm no Richard Stone Reeves, there are a lot of things I like about this painting that I improved on from the last one. For example, a smoother approach to the background
:-) It seems that I want to paint like I draw, and some cartooniness came out in Pistol. The eyes were the hardest part to get right - they were too big at first. Still not happy with the colour of the ground, but maybe some day I'll magically discover the right colour combo :-)

Another picture made from leftover paint from my 12-step chart. I made way too much green. The most enjoyable part was watching the colour emerge as they blended.

I wish I could get better stats from DevArt and ArtWanted. I have noticed an uptick in DA pageviews (about a 100 in the past two weeks) and I'm just wondering where all the folks are coming from! I have noticed more people looking at my ArtWanted gallery as well. I actually have 3 people watching me there (woo!) and my pageviews are reaching 400 for January, compared to 82 for last January. I set up a StatCounter for my website, so hopefully that will be more revealing.

I also added a new painting to DevArt. I didn't think it was special enough to warrant its own entry since I didn't put too much thought into it.

This week's homework consisted of making 3 7x10" paintings on illustration board. One had to be cool, one had to be warm, and the other had to be both. I am not sure if I did the assignment right, so here's to hoping when I hand it in tomorrow!

First pic of the new year! Please check out the step by step photo along with the notes I wrote. I originally began this painting in summer 2005, but decided to give up on it for a while. I'm glad I didn't. The reference photo I used is by Bob Langrish, but it is not a copy of his photo.

Although this picture was done on a larger piece of paper, I cropped it down for resizing. The image was made from a leftover styrofoam plate and pressed down with black acrylic, then had white added to it. I have been in something of an art slump for the past couple of weeks, so I just made this image for the sake of making something.

I have been trying so hard to get a good picture of my parrot. The one on DeviantArt was scanned and looked too bright. The one on ArtVark was taken by my digicam, but even without a flash, there was some glare. Lastly, the ArtWanted one is probably the best colour-wise, but is a little blurry. I think I will take it to a repro shop to scan.
