I love a gamble!
Aug. 20th, 2008 08:18 pmIt's something that I suppose comes naturally. My Dad's idea of babysitting us kids was taking us to the racetrack whenever Mom was at work. Perhaps at too young an age I learned the difference between whimsically asking Dad to bet #3 because it was my favorite number or trying to actually predict the outcome by looking at the racing form. The past is usually a good indicator of the future. The only thing that was ever guaranteed were french fries after the 8th race :-)
Craft shows have an almost similar risk - the odds of selling (winning) depends on the other vendors (horses), table placement (rail position) and yes, even the weather (was his mother a mudder?). The local sales have been slow to advertise this year, perhaps due to a lack of volunteers. I've been dancing around like a two year old in the starting gate, wondering what dates our favourite shows will be held on.
And wouldn't you know it, two of our most favourite sales are on the same Saturday. This presents a whole new set of odds. Mom and I are going to do one, while Dad does the other. But what should I give Dad to sell? Can he adequately sell my work? Will he set the table up right? Will he not fall asleep by 2pm (it's happened before). Only time will tell if we'll have played that daily double right.
