Oct. 25th, 2007 05:10 pmI was all nervous last night and fretting over my piece. I polished it once more before class started, but after seeing another classmate's work, I was puzzled why mine wasn't super shiny like hers. Shona happened to be walking by and told me to go back and polish it again, and hold it harder against the polisher. It's super duper shiny now! It's hard to get close to a machine that is capable of scalping someone :-D
The last polishing buffed out many of my mistakes, such as where I scribed the metal, but didn't saw, and where I gouged it by accident. It also made my rivets more flush and less visible. Last night's class was really good and everyone laid their pieces out for critique. I was surprised to see that only four other people had finished. If I had known that it wasn't a hard deadline, I might have freaked out a little less about it. I have to emery the edges and polish it again.
Regardless of the amount of progress, everyone's projects looked pretty good. There was a giant leaf that was going to be a brooch, a delicately textured eye of Horus and a cute pair of earrings, one a girl face and the other a boy face. Another pendant turned out to be a fancy pet tag.
I have to go shopping again - our next project is ring making. We have to set at least one stone, so I'm going to buy a cheap amethyst cabochon if I can find one.
